CMS Proposes Rule to Expand Access to Health Information

On December 6, 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a proposed rule that would improve patient and provider access to health information and streamline processes related to prior authorization for medical items and services. The Advancing Interoperability and Improving Prior Authorization Processes proposed rule (CMS-0057-P) is aligned with CMS’ ongoing work to strengthen patient access to care, reduce administrative burden for clinicians so they can focus on direct care, and support interoperability across the healthcare landscape. CMS is accepting comments on the proposed rule until March 13, 2023.
